On my Renault Premium 44tonne truck, which is 10 months old,my fuel tank is aluminium.
However, even so soon,it looks like it is 10 years old, never mind 10 months, and is starting to pit.
What can I use thats inexpensive to polish it,bearing in mind it's me that's having to fork out, because my company won't,so I don't want to pay a kings ransom?

'Solvol Autosol' aluminium polish is what a lot of bikers use to clean the exposed aluminium engine covers.

Hard work on a big tank. DD's suggestion works well, I don't know what residue it leaves behind, but stops further corrosion for a least a couple of months ! ;-(
I don't know what they do to polished aly to keep it that way, possibly some for of laquer, but I couldn't get it to stick to the metal when it was polished.

You're quite right,it is hard work on a large diesel tank,as I found out on Thursday night while parked up.
A fellow driver let me use his Peek Alloy polish,to clean it,but at £15 a tin,it's a bit expensive,to say the least. If my gaffer were to buy it,then that would be different, hence the reason for something not as expensive.
Most of the tank has been done,so I think I'll invest in some Solvol, just for the rest of it,but it would still be interesting to hear what others have to say or use.

mother used to have aluminium pans in her kitchen, used to be cleaned to a high polished shine using nothing more than hot water and a "brillo" pad. once cleaned, you could go the extra stage further and wax polish it.
