AUDI 80 Diesel Bad Starting - mickel
Since changing the fuel filter the car ,which was always a good starter is now starting but at times it can several turnings over before it starts. The manuel gives air in the system as a possible reason but it does not say how you get rid of it
Can anyone give me any help

Had same problem on TDi 80; turned out that the washer at the bottom of the filter slipped/was damaged when bolt was tightened, eventually allowing diesel to leak out (and air in). Slow starting was an odd nuisance, but when the diesel leak became noticeable, it required immediate action!
I thought modern diesel systems were self bleeding - if that is the case you need to identify where air is getting into the system (using grease to seal around joints is one diagnostic trick)

Sounds like you have an air leak on the filter - try taking it out again and carefully re-seating the seals. If that fails you may need to replace the filter and seals again.

Modern diesels are self bleeding, but I doubt an Audi 80 is! There should be a primer of some sort, pump this till it goes hard. There might also be a bleed screw on the outlet of the filter - in which case open this, and then pump till you get air-free diesel, close the bleed screw, then pump till it goes hard.

Is it illogical? It must be Citroen....
