Hi guys.
This is my first, any probably most defiantely not the last :). I recently brought a peugeot 306 1.8 XT L reg, 83,000 miles. I have done a lot of work on the car and yet i still have a problem with it. The car is petrol and runs with a catalyic convertor.
Basically when i start the car from cold it seems very noisy, even for a peugeot. However prior to this car i did own a Vauxhall Corsa SRI which was very quiet. Once I start driving away I find the engine to be noisy, a slight knocking sound (nothing major). When I sit at a traffic light for example the car judders and idle really bad. I have changed all the sparkplugs, oil etc. Once thing I have noticed is when i turn the engine off the rev counters goes down to about 200-400 revs and not zero. When you turn he engine on it goes upto the correct revs about 1000. Could this cause a problem?
I have de-greased all the engine so i can see any issues but cannot find a thing, im stumped. Im off to the garage toady to get a top engine mount fitted and 2 of the ball joints replaced and we will see what that does to it.
The garage said that this is common in all peugeot's but he also said they have checked over all the engine and cannot find anything else wrong about from engine mount and ball joints.
Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated. I will let you know what its like after garage work.

Ive had the work from the garage done. Its still judders whilr warm and idle. Also when you accelerate round corners at certain angles it makes a knocking sound. The driveshaft is fine, ball joints replaced and the catalyt convertor has been replaced. Any ideas guys please.
