Got a Rover 416 in today with a imobilser prob. It seems both key fobs (with brand new batteries installed) wont turn off the engine imobilser. (well they do eventually but after almost 50 presses!) , i know that you can dissable the immobilisation by using the drivers door key to enter the code, but we cant find the code anywhere. Any one know where i can find this code (on web etc?) or is it dealer only Job? costing silly money ?. The problem is spoiling an other wise reasonable car. Regards ..

Try these people

www.alarmremotes.co.uk

They also do a service where they can turn off the imobilisers auto arming & they can extract the 4 digit over ride code.

Either that or ask any Rover Stealership for the code - they should provide it for a small fee and upon presentation of the V5 and some ID

Key code on these is car specific ie each car has its own lock sequence.code is on a card at the back of supplied book.fraid it will be rovers.what normally causes this is if battery isnt changed fast enough.thats my experience anyway.but it is possible for the reciever to play up.from what you said it may be?

It might pay to shop around when asking Stealerships for the EKA - procedures and charges do vary.

Hi,

The procedure for resyncing the remotes to the car (when battery is disconnected in either car or remote) is printed in the owner's manual. However this will only work if they are programmed for that car. It's a piece of cake. I can't remember the exact details, but it's something along the lines of "unlock car with key, hold lock button on remote for three seconds".

However if they're not for the right car, THAT is where you have to get Rover involved.

Do they fail to lock/unlock the car, Car Trader, or do they do the locks OK but not disarm the immobiliser?

Cheers,
Mark

Hi, Got the code today from rover dealer and used it to disarm the imobilser by using the key in drivers lock back and fourth etc. Car now starts fine.I will not use the key fobs again so it wont rearm. I think the reciver end is faulty. Rover mech said remote was never that reliable and probably best deactivated anyway! , thanks for all replies

It WILL be the plip that is faulty and NOT the reciever - they never give trouble.

But, as you are, it's a free (or very cheap) fix, so be it.
