Subaru Misfire - whizzkidd-2004
Hi,

My Uncle has mentioned about an intermittent misfire coming from his 52 registered Subaru Forester 2.0 Sport.

He reckons that when he and my Auntie went to France to their second home for a few weeks he filled up with a dodgy tank of petrol at some point and that's when the misfire started.

Since then, (this is going back some six to eight months)when it started he's had numerous tanks of fuel and has booked the car in to Subaru in Widnes (twice) and they couldn't find anything when they plugged it into the diagnostics.

He gave me a lift from their house to a friend of mines this evening and it misfired once during the journey only for a few seconds then was OK again and he said that he filled up with Shell Optimax a few days ago and it's been running a lot better since it's had the Optimax although the misfire is still there.

It's been out to our second home in Wales and down to London e.t.c. so it's been getting long runs (so a substitute for the italian tune up) in the last six months so it's not as if it's choked up.

If anyone could shed any light on this problem, I would be extremely grateful.

Thanks

Keith

Wouldn't think its the fuel or its 'choked up' - more likely HT breakdown (dodgy coil). Is it worse under load - i.e. firm acceleration on an upward slope in 3rd? - this often shows up an ignition problem.

Cheers Aprilia,

I told my Uncle tonight what you mentioned and he told me it tends to happen more at lower revs as opposed to going uphill in 3rd, however he said he would give it a try.
