I find your comments about the BNP deeply offensive!
It was the lefty liberals who took our flag away by calling it racist and banning it.
I personally think it looks a bit common. (no offence to common people)

There are *loads* of these flags around my neck of the woods. I've had a look about it in a few shops but can't seem to find them.
Does anyone know where you can buy these things?
Cheers

Thanks.
That just goes to show that the new layout in my local Halfords is useless - I didn't see them when I went in!

Lets pretend this is a motoring discussion group............

I'm ok with the St. George Flag - it's not at all offensive and better than driving around with the Union Jack ..... which is of course the UK flag.
Good luck BTW (from a Scot)

Just to be a pedant, but I was always told when a young Scout, the flag of the United Kingdom is the Union Flag and can only be called the Union Jack when flown from the jack staff of a ship of Her Majesty's Royal Navy at all other times it can only be the Union Flag.
When flown upside down the Union Flag is also a signal of distress, friend of mine has great fun at events like the Proms going round asking people what their problem is!
Just to get back to motoring, wasn't there a makers badge which used to incorporate the Union Flag in its design?

Garter Day last year, HM the Q pitched up in the newish Bentley. That thing is HUGE in the flesh - looks like a cross between the Phantom and a Hummer. D of E pitched up in his black taxi!

What an agreeable fantasy. We'd be able to have discussions about whether Alfa's are unreliable and Bullbars should be banned.
Such a shame it's only a pipe dream....

Motoring - well it is for my motor I want a Union Jack; I may never have escaped from Scotland but I am still a British subject! Halfords only had St Andrew's cross
Toad the Supra has been out a few times in the better weather, and Magentis has nearly two years up, no complaints HJ!

Well said ST! With you all the way there.

Don't know if it is true but heard on the gripvive that the waving/ruffling of the flags disturbs the radar beams from speed cameras and also identifies the driver/vehicle as a friendly. Otherwise an American A10 may take a pop at you....

ID'D as friendly? To the Sceptics? Puts you in grave danger more like

I shall have some made up in silver foil, just like "window" during the war.

As I understood it, the presence of a UK flag on a vehicle meant that you were almost certain to get slotted by the Cousins. Much the same as a low-flying Tornado being mistaken for a reasonably small missile and being blown out of the sky by some trigger-happy National Guard cowboy.

I know this is a forum for motoring, but as it has already been mentioned, could someone tell me why the BNP should have adopted the flag of St. George? It's the English flag isn't it and the B in BNP stands for British doesn't it?
|
There's a photo in this week's Private Eye:
A packet labelled 'Two Iron-on American Stickers'. One is a stars and stripes, and the other the union flag!!!!
|
|
Why the English flag and the British NP? Think of it as lebensraum and there is no contradiction. I was in a taxi the other day with these flag flapping around and they made an awful racket. I dunno, they spend billions working on aerodynamics and then some numpty stucks a flag on the outside.
|
I'll add only one anecdote to a debate which is straying dangerously close to awkward territory. In my neck of the woods, the UK Independence Party is driving around publicising its cause in a pristine purple and yellow Austin Montego. Truly, a phenomenal metaphor for a free and independent realm.
As for the BNP and the Cross of St George...not here, guys.

Right, we've stablished that it's in connection with Euro 2004 and that you can buy them in Halfords.
Say bye-bye thread.
