I have a Blaupunkt head unit. I need to pull the unit out so I can plug in my cd changer. I do not have the extractor and I do not fancy buying one as I'll only use it once. Would you know if there are any home-made device that can pull out a radio? (Paper clips, wires, etc.)
Thanks, Gazza

If you're talking about the 2 u-shaped pullers as used for most stereos, they're only £1.50 a pair from accessory shops.

If you don't want to go to that expense, 4 terminal screwdrivers (one shoved down each hole) or cut up a wire coathanger and shove down each hole. Stick finger in cassette door and pull stereo from dash.

This is one of those jobs where given the right tool it really is easy, and at £1.50 its money very well spent. Just changed Nicolles cassette for a cd and it took 5 minutes

Welding rod is about the right gauge. Bent into a U-shape it will do the job nicely for you. (Have a look at a radio that's not in the car first, so as to work out how the clips work; you'll find it much easier then!)
