MOT computerisation stalled by delays - Altea Ego
Software delays have pushed back the roll-out of systems to computerise MOT car tests and remove one million illegal and dangerous cars from Britain's roads.
The first computer terminals were due to be installed in MOT testing stations in February 2004, but were delayed until April because of software development problems.

However, a review of the project conducted by PA Consulting and QuinetiQ then concluded that additional testing would be required, delaying the roll-out further.

in theory the police can do a vehicle check and will be informed that the car has no valid mot certificate as with tax now if police check your car on pnc it informs them if no excise licence is in force i believe insurance has or will also be the same hence some jack the lad in his uninsured untaxed un moted car gets stopped the police no longer need to give a producer they know if the car has no documents and can arrest on suspicion of failing to have insurance, mot. jack would then have to prove he did have the neccessary documents while still in police custody meanwhile vehicle could be confiscated untill proof was provided and if not then crushed (mind this is in theory practice may be very different).
