Has anyone any experience of:
Osram Silver Star H4, sold by Powerbulbs.com?
They sell for £19.50 a pair.
They claim 50% more light on the road and are the winner of the Auto Express 2003 Autobulb Test.(Best buy)
They sound good, but are they worth the extra cost over "ordinary bulbs"?

have got them in mine - there ok - hardly 50% brighter but worth the extra few quid over the stuff you get in halfords

I've been pleased with the results from the equivalent H4 units from Halfords in a couple of cars (Saab, Corsa). But, it's been commented here the benefits do seem car dependent. I can barely spot the difference in a current model Astra which uses H7's.

I find H7 headlamps to be in the main of either poor quality or poor design. Both my Leon and Mk IV golf go through these lamps at an alarming rate.
At £7.50 a throw I am not replaing them with the cheapest option in lamps. My question is are the more expensive lamps any more resiliant than those available from my local motorfactors?
All the usual fitting precautions are followed. Excepth the wearing of protective eyewear as recommended in my owners manual!

Fitted H4s to my Landrover and my wife's Clio and found them to give a whiter light with more defined beam pattern and less dazzle and scatter on dipped and probably 20 or so more metres penetration on main beam. I went out and bought some H7s for my Megane but found the difference far less noticable - I think that H7s are already "xenon filled" so there was only a slight difference in the quality of light ( whiter ). If your car uses the older H4s I would go for it but remember to have your lights re-aligned afterwards as they will probably have been done last time with poorly made bulbs unless you were using OE parts.

My findings correlate with Bobs, (although these were with the similar 50%+ Philips Vision Plus) I got some for my old car which had four H1s, they were worth it, very good, I bought some as a gift for my parent's Discovery, these were H4, the difference was outstanding,
Then I bought some for the main beam of my current car (my dips use HIDs), these are H7s, I can't tell the difference at all,
NB they say 50% more light on the road, not 50% brighter.

I find that these types of bulb fail after a much shorter time than standard bulbs.
