Hi, I'm considering selling my car to the likes of Motorway etc.

What should I do about my private plate?

If I go on DVLA and put it on retention, I can put my old plates back on the old car immediately, but I'll have no V5 for a few weeks. At least until the Postman brings it to me.

Will this matter?

I don't want to start the ball rolling with my P/Plates on, in case I loose it to the buyer.

Would anyone know what happens?

I’m sure these car buying firms are used to this situation and can deal with it accordingly.

It seems so, I give them the £80 retention/transfer fee and £500 deposit.

They do everything, and I drive my new car away that day,

When I receive the V5 for the old car in the post and give it to them, I get my £500 deposit back.

Seems fair.
