Nissan Leaf - Manufacturers’ warranty - Michael Braverman

May I please seek some advice.

My new Nissan Leaf has developed a fault and won’t start up. My expectation was that my local Nissan dealer would take the car, fix it and in the meantime provide a courtesy car. This is more or less what the warranty promises.

I have phoned 3 dealerships so far and can’t find one that will accept the car within 4 weeks. Also, courtesy car is proving tricky with one dealer saying none available, another charging £35 for insurance cover.

My question is; do these new car warranties come with a guaranteed level of service? Is there a legal duty to diagnose and repair the car quickly?

Thank you in advance for any views.

I’d like to ask the question. How new is new ? A day ,a week , month etc ?

The car was purchased about a year and half ago, from new.

I’m sure the guarantee is to fix it in a reasonable amount of time . 4 weeks does seem excessive. Perhaps contact Nissan UK head office. Even if they look at within short notice, there may be a shortage of parts to repair it , so another delay . Are you sure the auxiliary 12 volt battery is not flat ?

I know from the UK Kia forum that some people are waiting weeks if not months for warranty repairs. The Kia warranty doesn't allow for a courtesy car either, that's up to the discretion of the dealer.

Is the dealer you purchased from relatively local? They would be the best people to deal with for enforcing a warranty claim.
