BMW X5 - Car Insurance - UK cover is a bargain! - Falkirk Bairn

We all have seen complaints about insurance companies in the UK.

After this story you might think UK car insurance is "good" compared to overseas.

A son lives in Texas and owns an X5 that was in a shunt involving 5 cars - the driver who failed to brake was a youngish person driving a Ford truck - - he hit an Acura (posh Honda) , who hit a Ford Fusion (Mondeo) who hit my son's X5 and it was shunted into a new Camry.

Police turn up and announce the truck driver was insured.

Turns out in Texas you take out cover for 3rd party damage, death & injuries your car, medical expenses for your car occupants, death, injuries and medical care in 3rd party cars............ the more boxes you tick the premiums rise.

The Ford Truck Driver had taken insurance with a $25,000 limit on 3rd party liability (Texas introduced mandatory insurance 60 years ago) and have not set 21st Century liability cover.

The son's X5, under 2 years old, is a write-off as is the Acura, the Fusion - the Camry only has scratches.

Written off on Thursday by my son's insurer, he was paid out on Friday. Searching for a new car he found new cars like the X5 are on backlog. Dealers with cars available in a few weeks are demanding premiums on top of the List Price of $20K. He settled for a 3 month old car at list price of the car when it was new in February.
