It has to be a Honda Jazz - £15K will not get you a new one but there are loads of the older petrol models.
The 1.3 is asthmatic, like you Note, but there is the 1.5 Sport which is a tad faster. Irrespective of which model you buy it should be reliable

Totally disagree that the Jazz's 1.3 is asthmatic (having owned one for three years). May not be particularly powerful and there may well be a distinct lack of torque, but it does love to rev which is the polar opposite of (an engine) being asthmatic.
Be aware that as spacious and practical as the Jazz is, it does not have a sliding rear seat. What you do have is a rear seat base which flips up against the rear seat back rest to create a 2nd spacious load area. EX trim is top of the range and has such niceties as power fold mirrors, cruise, and climate.
As an alternative, (assuming manual gearbox) I'd suggest a Skoda Fabia estate with the 110bhp version of the excellent 1.0TSI engine. Huge boot, decently spacious cabin, good performance and economy, and reliable.
You could also consider a small SUV/Crossover like the SEAT Arena, same engine as the Fabia above and again assuming manual gearbox (so no DSG!).
You could also get into a brand new Dacia for that budget, either a high spec Sandero or a lower spec Duster (and of course you could get a nearly new high spec Duster).
BTW, cheapest current Jazz starts off at about £17k, so not too far above current budget. Auto only though.
