Mercedes E class - Update on door handle problem - barney100

I posted a few weeks ago about my interior door handle failure, I wasted by Mercedes that the handle wasn't sold separately and the whole card would be £1200 plus fitting and VAT. I found a local specialist who got me in this morning and two hours later the phone went saying the job was done, £62. The moral of this story is don't trust the big boys. Anyway I'm very pleased.

Very well done and a good specialist to have.

I'm curious, did they replace the handle or were they able to repair the existing one? In any event, at a saving of over £1200 it's obviously a very good call.

From what I can gather the mechanism had come away from the lever and it was a case of re-attaching, the lever was ok.

I have asked Mercedes for an explanation as to why this repair if done by them would need a door card at £1200 when the job was done for £62. not holding me breath.

the same thing almost happen to me, i am just really glad that i have a son in law that knows a lot about car repairs etc. i almost spend a fortune.
