Fiesta - Dropped a coin in the handrake gap - OceanMan

This is an odd one, and quite hard to explain, but...on my car (2009 fiesta) there's a small gap at the bottom of the handbrake stick. Today I dropped a £2 coin and it somehow slid into this gap and disappeared. I'll get over losing the coin but I'm wondering if it could somehow damage anything underneath the handrake box? I don't know if it can get jammed or cause other issues there.

Ha, yes the wife dropped our trolley token down that gap in our 2013 fiesta, I feel your pain

tried everything to get it out, but never did, I suppose you would have to dismantle the centre console, to get at it, so somewhere out there is a 2013 fiesta with a token down the handbrake gap, not sure if it will damage anything though, might rattle a bit..

I wouldn’t worry about it . There’s nothing down there apart from the handbrake mechanism. Whoever scraps the car in years to come, will be £2 richer !

Quite a few years ago my daughter bought a supermarket car (which gave her good service). She and I investigated the interior thoroughly and collected over £20 in pound coins from behind the rear seats. Some kid must have steadily drained his mum's purse ....

Could I recommend the "drop stop" to prevent future misfortunes? Just the ticket, I'd say. (I wonder if there's a version for sofas and armchairs!) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drop_Stop

As said...wouldn't worry about it...there's really nowt down there that could be a problem.

Being from Yorkshire stock I'd be far more upset at the loss of 2 quid.!!!,,can't deny I'd probably be dismantling the console as a matter of principle..I mean TWO whole pounds.???lol.

I have a tool for retrieving hard to reach nuts and bolts that have fallen into gaps. It's a telescopic aerial with a magnet on the end.

It might get the coin, but are they magnetic? I'll find out later :-)

I doubt any coins are magnetic, they would rust; unless stainless, in which case non-magnetic. Perhaps some stiffened gaffer tape poked into the gap may retrieve something?

Some UK coins are made from steel - plated to look like copper/brass coinage.

I- 2p - 5p and 10p are all magnetic.

One lives and one learns (at least for a while). But any coin next to a steel handbrake mechanism will not easily be retrieved magnetically ?

This reminds me of back when I was a poor student working as an apprentice in a workshop. I dropped a pound under the seat of my 9 year old Mk1 Fiat Punto.

I couldn't get to the coin as it had somehow got wedged in the runner. I took the seat out and got the pound out and went a bought some crisps from the petrol garage up the road.

Back then £1 was a lot of money when you're earning less than £5 an hour.
