BMW X7 - Why such a low tow rating? - Metropolis.
As per HJs review www.honestjohn.co.uk/road-tests/bmw/bmw-x7-xdrive3.../

2.2 ton rating from a 7 seat SUV? Surely not simply because it’s a unibody, i mean the full fat range rover is rated for 3.5 tons, can someone explain?

Plenty of other SUVs are rated at 3500kg towing.

The X7 is surely aimed at the US market where towing limits are more conservative because real towing is done by pick-ups.

That doesn’t explain it, given that full fat range rovers are rated at about 7716 pounds in the US which is almost exactly 3.5 metric tons.

Strange. The German ones are rated at 3,500 kg.

Chronic ugliness never stopped sales of the Range Rover Evoque. But then that may be because I'm the only one who thinks it's ugly.

Agreed the X7 isn't a looker. It has the air of a minibus about it, as does the Rolls-Royce Cullinan.

I don’t envy designers of big SUV’s it seems to be pretty difficult task and X7 and Disco are prime examples, X7 overall incredibly bland so let’s add an oversized grill to make it memorable/give it character. Disco, similar thing at the back! Agree with Trilogy the current RR does look good but I can’t decide about the Velar, it seems very spec and colour dependent.
