Mazda CX-5 - battery change - FP

The car in question is a 2-litre petrol 165PS with stop-start.

My 2014 example will need a new battery at some point. I'm trying to find out if it's a DIY job or not. Various Mazda owners' forums aren't being much help. One chap is suggesting the stop-start system will need re-setting after a new battery is fitted. If so, how? All I have the option to turn it on or off.

Or is there some other re-programming required that means it's a mean dealer job?

When my 1 series with stop start needed a battery it had to be coded to the car and then it took about 18 hours or so to initialise and realise it was a battery. Luckily it did that whilst I was driving and the car was stood overnight.

Even luckier was the fact that BMW paid for the full costs.

Your lucky that is all you had go wrong with it.

When my now-departed BMW 125i needed a new battery, the (trustworthy, independent) garage prescrbed a battery specifically suited to the car. I think this was because of the various electrical equipment it had (and it didn't even have stop-start).

Worth checking whether your particular CX-5 needs a Mazda-approved battery or not. I can imagine the presence of stop-start requiring something of a heavy duty nature.

Try speaking to the Mazda agent and ask?

If no luck then Mazda forums.

WHen our car with stop start battery failed we did need the dealer to supply and code the battery to the car!

If you search online you should be able to find a suitable battery.
