ford connect 2006 1.8 td diesel - not starting - peter burdon

engine started shaking and black smoke, got it home now will not start, put code reader showing no faults but a week ago it showed exhaust gas sensor , cleared that and was running fine, put a new battery on half an hour before it went wrong, where do i look,

Is this a tdi or a tdci engine? Fuel management systems are completely different for each one.

The di engine has very limited diagnostics. If you are using a cheapo scanner,then it is unlikely to give any relevant info as the car is not Eobd compatible. Crack open a pipe to one of the injectors to see if there is any fuel being delivered.

If is defo a tdci, then forget my previous response . Can you read live data on your scanner? If so ? What’s engine rpm speed and fuel pressure? Sounds like the egr valve may be stuck open

no codes showing, will not start at all, checked egr valve not stuck but ill check it is closing

checked valve blocked it off, i have fuel at injector pipe but will not start even with easy start, now how do i check they are opening to let fuel in,
