Looking to put my car in my garage and going to purchase electric doors, just wondered if anyone has recommendations for brands to go for/avoid? If it's going to break all the time I might as well do it manually!

Thanks in advance

We've got a Hormann sectional electric garage door.

Quiet in operation, reliable as a rock.

The big thing with these is the fitting. You are far better avoiding the big companies like the plague, and finding a local independent company - they seem to care far more about their customers than the big companies do. Prices are usually cheaper too !

We used Dorset Garage Doors,a highly reputablte local company, for ours, and they always recommend Garador. All fine so far.

Double garage with two single Hormann Promatic doors, now nine years old. No problems so far.....

It's not powered, but ours is a Garador, made by Westland, the helicopter people in Yeovil. After about 45 years in situ the steel counterbalance spring failed spontaneously, but was replaced fairly cheaply. Probably another 40 years life, but I won't worry about that.

We changed to electric doors years ago and no real problems. We had one failure that was quickly fixed. I would recomment using a local installer, one that has been going for some years and has a good reputation, and go for whatever doors they recommened and support.

Parents have a Gliderol garage roller shutter type door and they have had no problems with it in 6 years.

Without wishing to tempt Providence, our Hormann single piece double garage door has worked reliably for 14 years, I've only needed to put 2 new batteries in the remote control.

We fitted a hormann opener, mostly so that we could retain the latches at the side of the door - its much more secure than relying just on the resistance of the motor.

But I guess it depends on what door you already have.
