I have a dispute with MB UK and they now don't answer my e mails. I suppose this is the same with other manufacturers.

They obviously have no intention of fixing their disappointing product, and have decided to ignore you.

I don't watch television, but maybe following this rather hot summer you arn't the only MB owner whos convertible roof is separating, might it be worth writing to Watchdog if that program still exists they might have had other complaints (or is there another similar program?), or even HJ himself because that way you invoke more publicity of the wrong sort.

The backroom threads and comments probably don't give that maker any worries at all as most likely buyers of new exclusive models from makers like that wouldn't be seen here, exposure to the target customer market is where you should be heading IMO.

Have a vinyl wrap specialist make up something to stick on the side of the car, with very noticable wording, (briefly) pointing out the problem and that MB are not interested in helping and this is what customer service means to MB. Park the car in as prominent a position as you can find, preferably near the entrance to you nearest dealer. Or, if you have the time, and are not adverse to recieving attention, make up a plackard and stand beside the entrance. Nothing stopping you doing both!. As long as you are not parked illegally or standing on their premises there would be absolutely nothing they could do about it. They would hate it and i suspect it may get you some resolution.

Notify the newspapers and TV that you are going to do this. They love that kind of thing and it will give MB public relations people palpitations!

You sound like my very own SWMBO, a woman not to be trifled with, many years ago when a chain optician didn't want to honour their lifetime warranty, she stood outside the shop informing all potential customers what to expect regarding service, they did the right thing in quite short order.

Since you don’t want to pay their amazingly low price for the professional MB repair, you’re obviously not in their target market. (Irony alert.)

Have you tried posting in MB forums?

This reminds me when I bought a new posh watch cheap. I needed an extra link and went into Goldsmiths for the part. I was told “People like you devalue the brand”.

I've sent a n email to HJ, and several motoring publications and heard nothing. I was in the 'helpful' MB uk club 'til this affair and got no practical advice indeed some thought it amusing.

I value comfort, and emailed Rolls-Royce Motor Cars Ltd to ask whether individual adjustable centre arm rests (standard on my Audi) were available on their new SUV. Auto-replies 'thank you for your enquiry.....we will be in touch very soon' were all I got after three enquiries at weekly intervals. Perhaps they only respond to Chinese and Arabs.

Barney, have you tried www.slkworld.com forum. they have a specific one for R172s.

Many contributors live in hotter countries than this.

I think you would have a better chance of good advice there. Jbanks the moderator is a font of knowledge and will know whether this is a known fault.

FYI, I've never read about anything similar on my R171 model.

Thanks, I'll try them.

I've seen your post on there now.

Apart from a lot of "Howdy from New Hampshire" type stuff, the reply from Maike13 is very interesting.

Also did a quick google and found these www.caymanautos co.uk, specialists in Merc roof repairs, not a million miles from you in Redhill.
