VW POLO 2013 - Advice re: oxygen sensors - Devon123

I just wondered if i could get a bit of advice regarding my 2013 VW petrol polo.

A few days ago the engine management warning light came up and I took the car in for diagnostics at Halfords.

The results came back as both oxygen sensors needing replacing and I was quoted £300 to replace them. They said they'd tried cleaning them but they still needed replacing. I said i'd consider and get back to them after looking around for other quotes.

After picking up the car today the warning light is no longer showing and hasn't done since.

The car doesn't have any other problems and I had no concerns bar the warning light.

So, my questions are:

1. Now that the warning light is no longer showing does this indicate the problem has been rectified and that Halfords are trying it on? Or is it just a case of the light being reset?

2. Is £300 for replacing both oxygen sensors a reasonable quote

Thanks very much for any advice you can give!

Hmm,

well O2 sensors can be faulty or they can be fine but still throw up fault codes for a number of reasons and still be functioning fine.

They're there to measure basically exhaust gases and if say there's an intake manifold leak then they will never read correctly as the fuel air mixture will be weak.

Proper "P" codes would have been a help but you either didn't get them or neglected them here.

Proper diagnostics if they show up "suspect" lanbda sensors would lead me to check the sensrs actual readings and see if they could be altered by say introducing a change in the manifld air/fuel ratio.

P codes are there for a direction to check.

They're NOT an instruction for repair.

As above "They said they'd tried cleaning them but they still needed replacing.".Don't think so.No way would they have tried to remove them for cleaning.(which is a complete wasre of time anyway). If they are seized into the exhaust, there is a good chance trying to remove them will damage them.
