Toyota coolant are red and pink compatible - Lrac

Does anyone know if Toyota pre mixed red coolant is OAT ? I drained out the pink coolant from my peugeot 107 which I believed to be OAT and replaced it with the aforementioned coolant.

There seems to a lot of confusion with the earlier concentrated red Toyota coolant when I searched for information. I definately used the pre mixed so no water has contaminated the mix.

Coolant had pages of safety advice but no mention of compatability or specs. I used red after reading rave reviews about it. Pink appears to be longer life but I intend to frequently (3yrs) change the coolant.

From my experience Toyota have used OAT since the Yaris was introduced in 1998?/9? And maybe before then. I changed our 2003 Yaris OAT coolant with Toyota's concentrated in 2014 it turns red/pink when diluted.. (10 year changes recommended).

I am under the impression that the Toyota red premixed and Pink premixed are not compatible with the impurities in water and hence the concentrated version of red. I am now wondering if there is also a pink concentrate that I was not aware of. Everytime I think I have found a link to a technical data sheet I manage to find a page not available message or security warning. I am simply guessing that red pre mixed is OAT.

Oh how simple life used to be when you just bunged in anything marked antifreeze.

Have you asked a Toyota dealer? They are usually a) knowledgeable and b) helpful

I am sure if I had I would know. I tend to think these people are busy and don't need people like me bothering them. I am sure someone on here will simply say at some point "oh yes no probs". I tend to think this is why we use forums. I find the previous reply interesting in that OAT concentrated obviously is mixed with water making me wonder why I read that pre mixed OAT should not come into contact with water. Oh my brain hurts.

As you will know, the reason for sticking with manufacturer's ready-to-use coolant is that it is made with deionised water. If you use concentrate you must dilute it with deionised to avoid inorganic impurities which may affect the pH and initiate corrosion.

My 10-year-old Peugeot diesel still has its original coolant, which has been topped up once, and its colour (blue) is still unchanged, so I shall probably leave it in until it shows signs of change.

Very wise. Why on earth would you want to change coolant every 3 years? Only someone with no chemical knowledge would do this.

Our 17yr old 130,000m Focus 1.6 Zetec still has its original coolant, topped up once, and its colour (pink) is unchanged. If you replace it, you will introduce fresh oxygen (dissolved in the water component of the coolant) thus facilitating internal corrosion until it is used up.

I suggest the OP asks the question on the Toyota owner's club website:

Pink coolant is for vehicles produced after 2003, and red before 2003. Essentially you are correct, and the main difference is the service intervals and the country of manufacture. TBH, filling it with red coolant will not cause any damage, but will in theory require changing more frequently.

Yep yokel138 you have it spot on. Main dealer said exactly the same.

Thing is I originally just glanced at the overflow tank and thought that looks red to me plus I had recently read an article saying how wonderful red was. When I actually drained it I realised I had purchased a deep red colour as opposed to pink.

Now I have nothing to worry about I am just going to have to think of something else.

So refreshing when someone knows what they are talking about as opposed to quoting personal opinion as fact. I find this site quite good in this respect.

Thank you
