Volvo V60 T3 - Update Volvo V60 T3 - Wayne Dibbley

Just wanted to update anyone who may be interested.

Finally took the plunge and replaced my beloved 2003 Leon TDI with a volvo V60 T3.

Here are the pros and cons so far after 2 months of ownership

Pros

1. Solidly built and feels safe

2. T3 engine (1.6 Ford) is sweet as a nut and has plenty of power

3. Nice basic infotainment system with DAB

4. T3 variant very rare which is sort of nice.

5. Boot and space plenty big enough for family of 4.

Cons

1. Bit juicy but knew that would be the case ave 34mpg mixed, and it's been cold.

2. City safe can be annoying when trigered by bushes, barriers etc

3. I have never owned a car which is so susceptible to the rear doors freezing shut, and it's a Nordic car!

4. No foot rest!

That's it so far

I had two V60s back to back for 6 years, you do get used to the lack of footrest after a couple of months. My size 10 DM shoe would just squeeze past the clutch pedal to rest on the floor.

I only ever had the City Safe trigger once in 6 years, on a roundabout when a car cut in front of me.

To repeat what I've just posted on another thread, in case it's helpful:

Manual V60s don't have a footrest but the automatics do - a sturdy effort just in the right place.

I would imagine this is because in the conversion to RHD there isn't enough room in the footwell for both clutch pedal travel and footrest.

Odd that - as I too have said on the other thread, its the same on the V40, and given both may have been (sort-of, perhaps as a starting point) derived from the previous generation cars which are Ford/Mazda related (which the Mazdas at least have foot rests), I would've thought there would be room for them - there definitely was in the V40 in my view.

Perhaps the latest cars, or at least the V60, was a completely new design. Strange how the car firm most people associate with great ergonomics forgets to design in such a thing as basic (and cheap) as a foot rest. Their loss (in business) I suppose.

The V60 has a VERY wide transmission tunnel - much wider than it needs to be for the majority of engines (especially given the newish VEA modular engine, which is quite compact).

I suspect the chassis & floorpan was designed to accomodate niche variants, like the old T6 AWD, which had a transverse straight 6 and needed all the middle-gearbox gubbins for the 4WD system. I don't think I've ever seen that model on UK roads, but they must have sold a few somewhere ...

Funny you should mention the doors freezing. I had a Volvo V50 for 6 years and it was the worst car I have had for doors freezing up.

I did like it though.
