Volkswagen Golf V - Headlamp lens MOT advisory, 3M resortation option? - K21000

I have a 12 year old Golf. It's a clean car but the headlamp outer lenses have what I would describe as a 'frosting' effect which was mentioned on the last MOT. It's not yellowing or clouding. I was thinking of trying out the 3M kit with a UV/water resist treatment as I can't afford new headlamps. Not sure if this will work with the kind of problem I have on these. Has anyone tried this product with the issues that I have? The 3M product has very good reviews. Here are what my headlamps look like

As long as the beam pattern is within spec, then it will pass the mot requirement. You could try some toothpaste carefully rubbed over the affected area, but the issue may be inside the lens,in which case nothing will fix it.

Toothpaste is cheaper, and smells nicer. Lots of elbow grease needed as well.

Many abrasive products recommended here

Toothpaste is the least abrasive and if headlight not too bad MAY do the trick

Thereafter things like duraglit, brasso or rubbing compound MAY do the trick (with elbow grease) - try a sample area on the headlight unit

If really bad then it's 1000 grit sandpaper followed by 2000 grit followed by 3000 grit possibly followed by rubbing compound

HOWEVER after any of the abrasive solutions above - finish with a layer of proper car wax (and thereafter after every wash) as any remaining UV protection (if any!) will have been stripped off and the headlight unit will have lots of fine "scratches"
