Audi S3 Sportback - Reversing sensors - Billsboy

This car, under two years old is not fitted with reversing sensors.

Google comes up with several suppliers with fitters nationwide, (franchised presumably), such as AVR and AVS.

Has anyone used a supplier that they can recommend.

Thanks

If you are looking for aftermarket sensor system, then find a supplier/installer that fits these.;www.steel-mate.co.uk/ They also do a system that integrates into your MMI system (if fitted)

Also get a quote from an Audi dealer. Ours fitted the sensors on SWMBO's new A1.

If anything went wrong, caused by work done by an independent, Audi might wriggle out of the warranty: they couldn't if one of their dealers had done the work.

I am concerned about the warranty aspect and that's why I'm trying to find an independant with good reviews. The two nearest Audi Dealers both quoted just over £400. A local independant who claims to have experience with Audi quoted me £200 including colour matching. Slightly more expensive at around £250 was an independant who I believe has an AVS franchise. He claims to carry out work for Audi Dealers and this is backed up by a friend who carries out minor body repairs for dealerships including Audi and has met this fitter on site. Based on his recommendation, I was going to proceed but after giving him the colour code and other vehicle details, he has failed to call me back with dates as promised. I have therefore ruled out AVS but there are several others out there and if they are reputable, I might be prepared to take the risk on the warrany issue. A 60% mark up seems high even by Audi standards.

If you are 'concerned about the warranty aspect', then there is only one choice. Bite the bullet and pay main agent prices.

It's a highly complex set of engineering and electronics. A problem would cost more than the £150 saving just in diagnostic fees.

I'm sure if you can afford to buy a £30k+ car then I would have thought you could afford to do the right thing and and get it done properly by an Audi dealer.
Saving a few quid now on top end motor can surely only lead to tears.

Typical Audi. All that money and no parking sensors!

I was thinking the same thing, both parts!. We got a daihatsu sirion in 2008, it came with parking sensors as standard.

Frankly though, if parking sensors are such an issue, i'm wondering why you bought the car?

But, you can get parking sensors which dont require holes to be drilled in the bumper. or to be wired in. It is essentially a plate to which you attatch the rear and/or front number plate. There can be sensors at either side or one in the middle. The display plugs into the lighter socket, so no wiring. It is an easy DIY fit and i have seen kits on ebay at less than £30

Alternatively, you could learn to park the same way everyone used to, by knowing where the ends of your car are!

Geez! A top-of-the-range Audi and no rear parking sensors. That's what I call 'giving the bird' to their mug clients, ahem, I mean valued customers. I same across a similar issue looking at VW Golf GTs, none of which in UK spec (OK on the Continent though) came with climate control, just bog-standard A/C (you have to either pay an extra £350 [about] for the 'priveledge' or buy the GTi or R). What is it with these German makes? I suppose they are taking us for mugs, given we (not me personally) keep coming back for more, despite the obvious rip-offs.

I would get the work done at a main dealer, despite the extra cost (as others have said, you've already spent a small fortune buying the car in the first place - why scrimp on getting a second-rate installation that may affect the resale value by as much as the difference.

Main dealer...a £20000+ car at that age and still under warranty. don't be daft. Pay up!

I certainly agree that it is disgraceful that this car does not have sensors as standard.

The money is not the main issue and I've been driving long enough to have managed without reversing sensors for many years. The car was to a reasonable spec and it was only the lack of reversing sensors that stood out.

One issue is the apparent greed of the dealer. They employ the person who quoted me £250 and no doubt he charges them much less than that figure. That means a probable 100% mark up. I've always believed in sticking to main dealers for all servicing and repairs except on older cars and I will probably end up giving the job to the dealer. It still smarts nevertheless.

It is only my Wife who now drives it more and more often that is wanting the sensors otherwise I wouldn't bother. I suppose it's cheaper than a divorce.

I had to laugh at that last comment - funny but true! Probably also cheaper than paying out the insurance excess (or having the repair done without involving your insurers) for car park scrapes and dings.

I've recently had the factory VW OPS system fitted to my 2 year old Golf SV by this guy: poollretrofits.com/ . All the testimonials on his website are true; he did a fantastic job that's indistinguishable from the factory fitted system. His workshop was clean and tidy and he took great care while doing the job fitting protective covers wherever he worked on the car. I’d certainly go back to him again. He also offers the Cobra system that is the same as the aftermarket system fitted by VAG dealers. If you want any further info just ask. HTH
