Vw golf mk 6 2.0 tdi - Vw emissions and her replacement - andrewspe

Hi

I have been diagnosed with fault egr I was in getting emissions update and had a flashing coil and visit workshop message a few times that same week so told them that.

Vw Customer services are due to contact me as my local Vw dealer said car is too old for factory contributions.

Can I link this fault with emissions or is that a bridge too far? Bill is 1k+ on 7 year old 65k car I would have part ex pretty soon now in a right pickle.

Thanks.

I would think this car is too old for any emissions update and not egr related..Egr failure is a common problem and very expensive job if you go the main dealer route.A good indy should be able to do this for around half the price.

I understand you can get that bill down to about half that figure for EGR replacement, without contribution of any sort, by using a VW specialists or other competent garage and avoiding the main dealer completely.

Assuming VW don't help out is it too late to pull the car out before they start the emissions update (maybe avoid it altogther as so many seem to be doing) and find a dealer or specialist more deserving of your hard earned, a sentiment you might keep in mind regarding maker when you replace the current car eventually.

Hi. Can anyone point me in the right direction to any kind of "list" of "approved" indies for all makes of motors as that would be usefull? Ta

I doubt any non-franchised dealers are "approved" but there are one-make independent specialists around - in for VW Group brands often coverng several - I use Midland VW who seem to focus on Audi's but cope just fine with the "lesser" brands.

Make specific forums can be handy for finding indies, but bear in mind that an indy or other business might be sponsoring or in some other way connected to the website, and that relationship may not be obvious, so if the gushing praise pudding is overegged somewhat there may be another reason than they are simply good indies.

well my issue with Vw is I have full service history there everything done with Vw parts. So thought this would have been worth some help.

We shall see I expect to get it down a bit surely making it not worth going elsewhere. Just wondered if I could blame emissions scandal as its related.

Egr failure is common on all Vw models, even if they don't need any emission software update.

The EGR valve is a valve. It opens and closes. That's all it does. It does not perform any other magical function. When it's open it allows exhaust gas back into the air intake, and when it's closed it doesn't. It should only be open during cruise conditions, and closed at engine idle and full load. The Mass Air Flow sensor verifies the ECM that the EGR valve has opened when commanded. The most common problems are a stuck valve or clogged air intake. If the valve itself is clean and moves freely there isn't anything else that can be wrong with it.

The car is 7 years old, do you seriously expect VW to carry out work FOC for ever.

If you want a 7 year warranty buy a Kia. But once 7 years are up you are on you own.
