Tiguan 2013, 24,000 miles. 4WD. - Clutch release bearing? - AP16

Hi all,

Would really appreciate some help. Our manual 6-speed Tiguan recently had its gearbox removed and refurbed after a hole developed in the casing a spewed oil everywhere.

It’s gone back in, and for a few weeks everything felt great again.

Over the weekend I’ve begun to feel clutch pulsation on the pedal when its depressed fully – it disappears once the clutch is back past the bite point after changing gear. 1 st and 2 nd gear is a little notchy, shifting both up and down.

Additionally, it’s developed a bit of a whine under the bonnet in 6 th gear between 45-55mph when feathering the pedal, under load it disappears. It also seems to appear again at around 70mph, but again when the pedal is being very gently pressed to maintain speed, rather than heavy acceleration. Very noticeable, and quite annoying!!

It's 4WD if that makes any difference.

My first thoughts were clutch release bearing on its way out, would that be consistent with all these symptoms though?

Thanks in advance, any thoughts much appreciated.

I would have thought if they had the gearbox out they would have checked the clutch/release bearing. Did they actually repair the hole or have they fitted another gearbox? if they did that could account for the whine.

The roughness on the peddle certainly sounds like the release bearing, is the clutch disengaging properly, are you having to push the pedal right to the floor? If it isn't that will make the gearchange notchy, see if it goes in and out of gear more easily without the engine running.
