Alfa Romeo Brera - Apparent lack of brake brake assistance - Vinyljunky

Hi, been going through a late mid life crisis and have the urge to own Brera , done alot of review reading, always loved the GTV, then found the Brera, had a look at a couple of dogs, then find one that ticks all the boxes, high miler diesel but good history, took it for a drive onlyto be disappointed with the braking characteristics, initially put it down to sitting on a forecourt, but after 30 minutes they didn't get any better, very hard brake pedal with no power assist feel to them at all, was on a relatively quiet B road, so thought lets wind it up and try an emergency brake, after what felt like ages they car came to a controlled stop, appreciate it is a heavier car than the Megan I was going to chop in, but the brakes did not instill any confidence.

Car had just had an mot 3 days previous and passed with flying colours, but going by brakes operation I gave the car a wide berth , a very sad wide berth.

Has anyone had experience of this? Is it part of being an Alfa?

I am used to driving rice burners and french cars, was a virgin to Alfas.

Needless to say salesman wasn't interest in me after my decision, not even to the extent of looking into the Brake issues

Cheers for any info

I've only had this happen once, but it MAY be worth checking.

After having numerous garages failing to find a similar fault, I eventually traced it to an internally collapsed brake servo hose. When the hose was relaxed, the car would brake fine, but after that first push, the hose was effectively flat inside, so no vacuum.

Might be worth a look,
