Peugeot 308 - ABS light permanently on. - PB308

Hi

Hi wonder if someone could assist.

Have a problem with a 2009 (59 plate)Peugeot 309 1.6 diesel.

Picked this car up a weeks ago from an auction. (Mistake one I guess)

Anyway, car drives fine. After about a week car started displaying depollution faulty. Thought it could be blocked dbf or whatever so put in some Diesel Particulate Filter Cleaner and took it on motorway for about 15 miles. This seemed to do the trick and message disappeared.

I now have a ABS brake fault displayed permanently. I have taken it to my mechanic who says that it's a specialist job. The diagnostics state that it's the ABS pump - "stating recirculation pump electrical fault permanent." I have been reading frantically and seen some people saying that this might not be the ABS pump, but the control unit or brain for the car.

It isn't that I don't believe my mechanic as he spot on - states it's a specialist job and beyond him, so has nothing to gain. It is going to an "expert" next week, but interested as don't want to pay for replacement ABS pump if its the control unit.

Any ideas advice/ideas welcome - other than don't buy from auctions!!

Basic checks first.fuses and wiring to the abs unit.The abs pump and ecu controller are one unit ,although they can be separated.If this is an Ate unit,then it is possibly an internal fault within the electronic module.A specialist repair may be available.

Google "Peugeot Planet Map" - its a map to a UK network of Peugeot owners with the Lexia diagnostic equipment that only works on Peugeots and Citroens.

They're not garages or mechanics so won't have a vested interest in making money off you. They'll just hook up the equipment, show you where the faults are so you can fix them yourself or go armed to a local garage to get them repaired.

FIrst thing I'd do though is check the ABS wiring connections. If its the same as the 307 the ABS unit is in the front passenger wheel arch, and is the arch liner is damaged or missing or the protective bag is missing from the unit, dirt and crud will have got into it.
