Trader vics
I bought a car from a motor trader (as says in his letter head ). I have some minor problems with the car. On approaching the trader about getting the car repaired, he is saying the car he took in part exchange needs 2 new tyres, the head gasket is going, etc., etc. Does he have any legal right to offset these faults he says he has now found against repairs of the vehicle sold to me?

I can't find any law that gives him this right. He is assumed in law to be expert enough to spot things like this before he takes the p/x. You aren't. Your rights (recently reinforced by the OFT) are here:
