Citroen Xsara Picasso, Renault scenic - buying mpv with £2500 budget - Flower68
My x reg scenic has just suffered a broken cam belt, I have always liked the car especially the sitting position and height. I have just seen a lovely Citroen xsara picasso 1.6, 06 reg around 60000 miles petrol, 7 service stamps, my budget is £2500 which is the asking price, however it hasn't had a new cam belt, which would be due, the seller will not drop the price but has offered to do cam belt at trade which he says will be around £300, making the car £2800, is it worth it or are there other alternatives? I have also seen 9 year old scenics at this price similar milage and marivas with less milage or is there something else I should be considering? Any advice would be very much appreciated!

Ther are plenty of good French cars around, such as your Scenic: but they are more vulnerable to abuse and neglect, so that buying a secondhand one is more of a gamble.

If you want, or need, a new car, I suggest you look at a Toyota Verso. Has the broken cambelt ruined your Scenic's engine? If not, it could be worth replacing the cambelt and carrying on with the Scenic.

Thank you I will have a look at the verso, unfortunately the scenic has lots of other issues, and I have been quoted 800- 1000 for repair for cam belt alone, so have decided to scrap it, will check out Toyota now!
