I winessed a very near miss today in the small village where I live. The village has a narrow C road through it, with a 30 mph limit that is ignored by the ignorant few.

While standing in the corner of one of the residential roads and the lane I saw a blue Fiesta go hurtling up the lane and almost take out a resident who was cleaning his car. The driver hurled a stream of abuse at my neighbour for "being in the way" and then at me for enquiring about my neighbour's welfare. With a cheery "f*** off" the driver took off and within 100m had to stand the Fiesta on its nose to avoid an oncoming tractor. Karma.

Double karma, the resident he nearly hit is a retired police officer, the registration has been noted and the idiot reported.

I hope he gets what he deserves.

I'd suggest reporting it to the police too, and insisting on an incident number. The more people who do so, the more he will be 'on their radar'.

Why the incident number ? Quite simple really. If you've got that, and in a few months he kills people, then it won't look good on the police if there is a record of his bad driving, and they did nothing about it. Nothing gets people moving more than the knowledge that they might be in the firing line !

I had to have a driver assessment in a job. It was done by a retired traffic officer. Part way through, a white van came barrelling down the road, forcing its way through traffic. The assessor made a note of its registration and said "I'll have a word with my old mates about that".

I had a hot head follow me home once and shout abuse, my crime was to be doing the speed limit outside a school and delaying mr angery.

My favourite was travelling into Preston in a 30, followed very, very closely by a Corsa or such which dissaproved. As we approached a turn-in where police were on a vehicle check (Police vans and BMW bikes congregating) matey was signalled by a large copper to pull over. Oh joy and chortling!

If your location is Sussex, the Police have a site called operation crackdown where you can do the honours.

Local councillor waxed lyrical about the site, until his wife was caught speeding, then they were every name under the sun. :)

What I didn't realise was just how senior my neighbour was when he was in the force. The idiot got a visit (apparantly) and made all sorts of accusations about my neighbour threatening him, my report clearly helped as did the fact that my neighbour is 72 and the idiot is 24.

Thread drift and a seperate incident, I seem to attracting these m****s lately. Sitting at a red traffic light on Monday at about 6:30 am, an unlit black-clad cyclist came past me on the inside, turned right in front of me into a no entry and caused a oncoming white van to have to screech to a halt. Unimpressed van driver was subjected to all manner of abuse even though he was going along quire kegally.
