citroen c3 picasso - diesel primer pump - gaz28

Hi,can anyone tell me where the primer pump is on a picasso c3 ('60') the owners book states its under a cover on top of engine by the filter,i cannot find it at all.I have a felt type cover on the top with two rubber grommets holding it on and once removed there is no sign of a priming bulb or the like.I only need to know for future reference in case of running out of fuel. if its any help the engine is a SH9HPO TYPE DIESEL. thanx gary

Does your car have an electric fuel pump in the fuel tank? If so you should be able to hear it humming when the engine is running. In this case there will be no primer, as you won't need one.

Can't tell you on the C3 Pic, but most PSA's as i recall you will find a rubber tube belows across the top of the engine or maybe clipped to the bulkhead (follow the pipe where it comes up from the tank), its an inline pipe pump which you grip and release not an old fashioned up down plunger sitting on the filter.

Course its possible they've done away with them, even my 90's Merc Diesel had no primer (self bleed supposed to just wind it on the starter for 5 minutes, yeah right), but it was easy to pre fill the filter bowl with clean when renewing and refitting bowl, as i recall the last PSA filter i changed was buried somewhat so not so easy to pre fill.

Some of the PSA engines were fitted with a primer plunger,

I have a couple on the books with this style.

It's on the left of the filter housing,

'bout 25mm diam top and the plunge part is around 50mm,

and just to hide it it's made of the same type of stuf the filter housing is made of and the same coulor!!

If you put your ear close to the fuel tank with the engine running you may hear it. Also put the palm of your hand on the underside of the tank and you should feel it operating.

yes i can hear the electric pump,thanks,could you possibly answer me another query,as you may or may not be aware the picasso's fuel gauge is notoriously inaccurate and i was wondering, if the fuel increments on the gauge show over half full and in theory the tank was nearly empty will the warning light still show even though the gauge is wrongly showing it has plenty of fuel.I just dont fancy the idea of relying on the increment scale and get stranded somewhere.

Could i suggest if you know on your odometer roughly when you're down to 1/4 tank that you fill up on mileage basis and therefore never actually run out.

Its something those of us that have LPG conversions do, the tank gauges of which are more or less useless, so we get used to zeroing the odo trip meter when we fill up and make allowances for the type of running we've done to how much gas we will have left, after a couple of times it becomes second nature.
