You need to elaborate a bit - what sort of socket and what sort of clamp? It'll also help if you say what you were trying to do when this happened.

What you need is a "Barnsley Screwdriver".

Removes most offending sockets etc in seconds.

Put ratchet/t piece back on socket.

Apply gentle hammer blows in opposite direction of teh one used when it was stuck.

If it does not move with gentle blows , apply gentle heat with blowlamp to socket. This will expand teh socket. Apply T piece/ratchet again. It should move easily.

If you hammer too hard, the post will move in the battery: new battery needed.

is it adviseable to put a naked flame close to a battery , in case fumes may be present ?
