So my recently acquired old Merc A Class is in very desperate need of a thorough service, years of use as a staff shuttle by a local firm has left the oil in an abysmal state. The filler neck is full of the inevitable white gunge, worse than I've ever seen and to the point where any fresh oil takes a very long time indeed to drain past it into the block. What's the best way of removing said gunge during an oil change? My thoughts were just to put several doses of engine flush through, but will that do the trick?

I successfully removed some mayo from my missus's car using Wynns Engine Flush for Diesels

If it is really bad though, I'd suggest lifting off the cam cover and removing as much as you can mechanically first.

I'm impressed it lasted long enough without any breakdowns to rack up enough miles to do that!
