VW Golf 1.6 SR Hatch - VW Golf loosing power on turns only - Rama

Hello

I inherited my son's VW Golf 1.6 SR. It seems to have a unique problem. I noticed that when the left or right signal is on for turning it seems to loose power (sometimes), engines revs low. I let go the accelerator and press again and it seems to rev up again ok. It happens when the turn signal is turned off automatically at the turn. I tried a few time without switching on the signal and it works fine. Any ideas? I am suspecting an electrical problem.

  • Check if your brake light(s) come on or flash when the indicator is on. There could be a short between brake light and indicator light - usually caused by wrong bulb being fitted or incorrectly fitted. The engine management is cutting power as it think the brakes are pressed....

Rear light cluster earth.

Check the rear lights (indicator combined with brake). Basically if the earth is dodgy when an indicator operated voltage is applied to the indicater bulb filament that passes it to the earth of the light cluster which if the earth feed is missing then passes voltage through the brake light bulb back up to the brake light switch. When voltage is applied to the brake switch feed(be it throught the above or pushing brake pedal) then the engine management system will cut the power.

Yes, both of are correct. After posting the message I checked the signal light and the brake light. I found the signal light globe was shaking and loose. I refitted it and the problem is gone. I am still not happy with the light assembly, seems to be shaky for both brake and signal lights. I am shopping around for a new set of rear lights assembly and replace them both for permanet solution. Thanks again for the response.
