It is a diesel and yes, it does have a DPF.
If as you say, you're only doing short journeys then it will start to have problems if it hasn't already what with the EML being on. The 1.4 diesel engine is not the most refined and can sound harsh what with being a 3 cylinder design. The positive side is the MPG and low TAX bracket but this, IMHO, is offset by it's lack of performance. It is quite sluggish as it's designed for economy, not speed and to get any meaningful 'go' out of it, you need to rev it thru the gears which will firstly, make more noise and secondly, use more fuel.
You may find a petrol engined car will suit your needs better with the mileage and type of journeys you do ? A diesel usually only makes sense if you cover long journeys on a regular basis, especially with a DPF equipped car as it's when the car is at a certain temperature, with the right road speed and correct RPM constantly that the DPF gets regenerated. If these parameters are not reached as and when the regen is required, and if the process starts but ends too soon by not keeping the speed/RPM etc in spec, the regen will fail and the soot in the DPF will accumulate. After 3 failed regens, you will need to have a forced regen at a garage equipped with suitable diagnostic kit. Also, the regens inject extra fuel to increase heat help speed up the burn off of soot, the excess will dilute the engine oil and that'll need changing too.
Hope the explanation helps you come to a decision ?
All the best.
