Vauxhall Corsa - Corsa-C 1.4 chain engine sudden oil pressure loss - mfarrow

MILs Corsa-C suddenly developed a oil light and lots of rattling on motorway. She stopped straight away and on restart the fault was cleared.

What could be causing this and is it linked to the chain which I think needs changing anyway as it's getting a bit dieselly? Has anyone experienced this problem before? If so what was the solution?

I wouldn't drive it - or even start it - again, without it being in a garage first.

It could well be that the oil pump is just about to fail, or that something blocked the pump/oil passageway but has now been cleared, or moved to somewhere further on in the engine. If it happens again, it could be terminal for the engine.

Well it got back home OK apparently but light came on again when coming into the village. It's at a garage now so I should find out what damage has been caused. It was already on the road again when MIL called.

My main curiosity was whether this was linked to the chain issue on these. If it's the pump though then many birds will be killed with the same stone anyway when work starts as I understand that's chain driven, yes?
