Evening all,
I checked my discs and pads today, and thought they could probably do with replacing, as it's an automatic, and is heavy on pads anyway.
So I rang the local Saab garage for a quote and they said £250.00 incl fitting.
I then looked on Eurocarparts.co.uk, and found the Saab OE parts for £127.00 incl vat and delivery.
Is it really a £125.00 job to change the discs and pads, or are they trying it on?

sounds pretty reasonable to me, given Saab is allegedly a premier brand ....

If it's a Saab main dealer, then the £125 for fitting is reasonable. However, it isn't a difficult home mechanic job - remove pads, unbolt caliper, remove two Torx screws, remove disc, reassemble, job done! The only potential pitfall is getting the two Torx screws undone.......I did the job on my 9000 recently & apart from this, easy peasy. I believe that not all models of 900 will even have these screws, depends what year the car is. Also, depending on how you feel about these things, you could get pattern parts for £60 all in from a motor factor. The halfway house is to get a smaller garage (doesn't even need to be a Saab specialist) to do the job, as there is nothing that requires special tools or of any degree of complexity - I would trust our village garage to do it. But whatever else you do, do not fit anything other than genuine Saab pads - you will notice the difference and compromise safety, however good a make.

Any progress or comments?

Thanks for the info.
There only seemed to be on torx for the disk itself, and two bolts holding the caliper on. So I have ordered the parts from Eurocarparts, using the original Saab references, and will fit them tomorrow evening.
I am lucky in that the guy who had the house before me built a huge garage on the side, so I have plenty of space to mess about in.
Cheers
p.s. The wife wants a meal out of the money I'll have saved, so it may well have been cheaper to take it to the Saab garage after all!

Don't forget you'll need some Loctite or similar to apply to the threads of the bolts holding the calipers on when you reassamble. I just mention it as it's all too easy to get the darn thing in bits & totally immobile when you suddenly remember that little part you need!

You'll need some red grease as well.....

I've got some threadlock, but no idea what red grease is!
