Whilst searching on line for a Kia Sorento last week we came across one in Auto Trader being sold privately by some fellow now living in the US having recently split up with his wife. Their possessions were seemingly being sold off by a company called B & N Couriers Ltd based in Cullompton, Devon. We checked their credentials on their website and via Companies house and all seemed legitimate. The car had only done 35,000 and was on sale for £8,800 which seemed like a saving of 2-3k over other similar cars. Unfortunately the car was in storage in Berrick upon Tweed and with us living in the midlands that was an issue. They kindly offeerd to deliver the car down for a 3 day appraisal if we pad the 20% deposit which was refundable if it turned out to be not what we had understood. All seemed reasonable except that they needed the deposit by BACS or CHAPS transfer. Concerned that we would be parting with significant monies without receipt of car we did some further digging and found a brief note on Yell.com from someone claiming to have lost money with B&N. When challenged they claimed it was a competitor seeking to rubbish their business and their protestations seemed genuine, however our suspicians were now acute and just by chance we came across the identical car being sold out of a garage in Macclesfield (though unfortunately for £11,995) who when contacted confirmed that B&N did not own the car in question. They have asked auto trader to remove the private listing. Beware if it sounds too good to be true it might well be! We won't be progressing this any further.
