Ford Focus 1.6 petrol auot 59 plate - Ford Focus 1.6 auto petrol gearbox issue - NoelfromKent

When the car starts on any day there is a mild 'clunk' as it frst moves from first gear to second. Doesn't happen again until car is left for a long time or overnight. What is it and will it get worse? Why does it only 'clunk' once???

Grateful for any ideas. Gearbox is probably used in many other vehicles...

The first thing to do in most cases with auto gearboxes is to get the oil changed, plus filter .

That usually improves things in the majority of cases, but obviously depends how many miles and what sort of use your car has had.
