Peugeot Boxer SWB - MPG for 1995 Peugeot Motorhome - LeeLee83
Hi all.
I’m looking at buying a Peugeot Boxer SWB motorhome.
The reg is M710 PAG.
Registered December 1995.
I’m trying to get some figures for MPG.
The seller has given me a figure for when he drives “conservatively.”
Other than that, I’m finding it tough to find some figures.
The engine is 2800cc, Diesel.
Can anyone help with the information?
Thanks in advance.

I've looked at this regularly as tempted to buy one ....BUT.... Apart from sky high prices, you're looking at 25 to 30 odd mpg at best on a big motorhome. Assume say 28mpg for your costings and you won't be far out, they're big heavy lumps with terrible aerodynamics don't forget!

Biggest issue with motor homes , especially those of advanced years , is corrosion of the chassis and rot in the bodywork from damp . Be careful, you come be buying a damp shed .

Yup, my neighbour caught a £20k cold (what he lost) when he bought an overpriced but rotten aged (2003) motorhome during covid. He had £1000's of welding done in just over a year but gave up when interior floors were cream crackered due to a leak from a shower cubicle replacement badly fitted in the past. Van based vehicles are generally poorly rustproofed,if at all.

I would suggest you take a look at previous mot history before going any further.

As has been said, have a good look at MOT history, especially with such a short one. If passing the next MOT wasn't going to require a big expense, why wouldn't a seller do that?. It would make the vehicle much more attractive to a potential buyer. The fact that it is being sold with such a short MOT suggests it needs a lot of work.

As for your question on mpg, when I started cleaning windows I was running a swb high roof Iveco Daily with the 2.3 turbo diesel. My average was 29mpg.

If the Boxer you are looking at is a standard van conversion (I'd say unlikely with the 2.8 engine) it would do more, maybe 35. But my assumption is a coach body built on a chassis cab(?) in which case I'd expect similar mpg to my Iveco, maybe a little less.

But be aware that as your speed increases, the power necessary to push that big bluff body through the air increases a lot. Keep it below 60mph and the effects shouldn't be too bad.

You were right…
after many messages, i arranged a viewing, then received this…
"Hi, miscommunication between my wife and I, she did the Gumtree ad and I did marketplace. Anyway, there are some faults that need sorted out, as follows:
Gas system needs attention.
Hob burners need replaced
back door locks need replaced
Slight leak at back door
External electric plug cover broken - fully functioning
Screen washers not working
Wiper blades need replaced
Handbrake needs adjusted
Occasionally won’t start - pretty sure this because battery needs replaced.

Sorry about this, if you're still interested see you tomorrow around ten if not, no worries, just let me know either way,
Cheers"

He was honest… but forgot to mention this in the advert or the first few
messages.
