New alternator fitted, 14v at battery

When heater fan is operated at speed higher than1, battery light comes on

14v seems to be maintained, so why is light coming on?

Is car to be considered reliable?

All Fords from around 2000 are fitted with a smart charge system whereby the charging voltage is able to reach above 15 volts under certain conditions . 14 volts seems a bit low to me . I would check wiring connectors to the back of the alternator and battery. The charge warning light is controlled by the engine management system .
