Suzuki Swift - Suzuki Swift 2009 - 1st & 2nd gear disappeared - Samuel Woolaston

Wondering if anybody has experience on this issue, as information regarding it seems to be a bit hard to find.

Mid journey, whilst parked at some lights, my Suzuki lost it's 1st and 2nd gears. It's like there is nothing there, you can push the gearstick over to the left and into where the gear should be with no resistance, and it just slides right on back to the middle. Other other gears, and reverse, all engage and work with no problem.

I'm struggling to find information on what kind of issue can cause this. Also, whether the problem is likely to necessitate a gearbox change? Or could this be something else failing, or something relatively fixable in the gearbox.

Car done approx 55k miles. I gave the car back to the dealer not long ago after the gearbox failed shortly after purchase, and 3 months later, this happens.

Could be part of the shift linkage broken or come adrift. This will be external to the gearbox.

Yes, sounds as if one of the linkages has come adrift. Should be an easy fix, but getting at it may be tricky. If there is space between the engine and the bulkhead you should be able to find something. If not, the car may need to be hoisted.
