Car Hire for trips - Warning

I have been looking at car hire for UK trips. I have an older car, but I wanted a treat myself by hiring out newer cars etc... However, it is a pain, as the cheapest rentals seem to be at airports and so it means, I have to pay an arm and a leg to keep my car at airport parking. Airports are out of the way.... (unless these car hire places, will give me a car parking space!).

There are a number of local car hire places near my home, but hire costs are astronomical compared to airport hire......

Plus, it will help me decide, which will be my next car....

I don't know if people have any suggestions?

I usually hire via my Costco membership - the cars are from my local Enterprise.

Get a taxi/bus/train to the airport.

Or

Ask a friend/family/partner to drive you there in your/their car

Or

Check if they will deliver/pick up the car to your home. I know Enterprise do.

Warning, I don't think you are within 30 miles of colchester, but if you need a lift...

I always thought airport car hire carried an "airport access fee" surcharge, making it dearer than the similar hire from a city centre location. Perhaps this no longer exists?
