Ford kuga - Halfords car service? - marv80

So considering taking my car, which has done nearly 200k miles to halfords for a car service, as they seem to have some good service deals at the moment. What are your thoughts, as have always used Ford service but as the car is now very high mileage, I am looking at costs. What are your thoughts regarding halfords? They seem to have fairly good reviews, on Trust pilot. Many thanks.

The skill and service you may or may not recieve from Halfords has the potential to vary dramatically from branch to branch. So if the reviews you are looking at are for your local branch, fair enough. But if they are for Halfords service centres in general, i'd be a bit cautious. See if you can find reviews for your local branch.

Personally, i'd be looking at reviews for local independent garages and go with whichever has the best ratings.

I’d rather fish out a good reliable independent from friends recommendations personally. A good backstreet garage will be busy and usually have a few taxis lying around in various states of reassembly. This is too high in the miles to maintain at a main dealer, they’re useless at making di and mending and will typically replace parts rather than properly fault finding like a good independent can. But standards vary hugely so recommendations are key.

200k miles in a Kuga,

Do tell us, how old and what problems you have had on the way, but if you have done all that yourself since new, Well Done!

On the subject of Trustpilot. - Never look at the 5 star reviews first, look at the lowest 1 star reviews to see what really happens when things go wrong.

I strongly suspect that a lot of TP 5 star glowing reviews are padded out with friends, employees and relatives etc.

It shouldn’t cost too much at Ford for another service unless lots of parts need replacing. If it does need work doing, Halfords can be very expensive as well as they have no discretion over parts, only what the computer program tells them to use. No joke! I experienced that with an MOT failure, I wanted to specify which coil springs (all genuine LR but different weight specs for cars with winches, bull bars, tow packages etc) and despite being on good terms with them they couldn’t agree to follow my request despite me having the part numbers (what an anorak..). They did go out of their way to find the name of a local specialist which would not only do what I wanted but also for less. To be honest I’ll only go to Halfords for basic jobs like aircon as my local branch gives stellar service. Agree with ORB, do tell us more about your Kuga!
