Honda CRZ - Is it easy to change a battery - smallcar
I think the 12 v battery on my honda CRZ is on the way out. It gave me a scare today when I’d been using it for short trips and the dashboard lights flickered oddly and it intially wouldn’t start. It did start but other CRZ owners have said the 12 v battery (not thr IMA hybrid one) originally fitted isn’t much quality. It’s 7 years old. I use the car once a werk.


Is there much difference between batteries available online? Soem crz owners have mentioned Yasusa brand?
Is it easy to swap in a new battery without messing up things like radio codes, alarms? Or is it best left to the dealer? Does the car remember it’s mileage when you change the battery?

Yuasa batteries are perfectly ok for this car. I would check the price at a Honda Dealer as sometimes they have deals. As for fitting , it is not a difficult job,but if you are not sure , take it to a local garage. You made need a radio code for this car. Mileage remains.

Yuasa are actually what the japanese prefer to fit to their cars Hybrid & others, in my experience they are a very good solid reliable battery & generally come with long warranties.

Its best to make sure you have your radio code if you need one, generally speaking Honda put a card in the owners handbook wallet with the 4 digit code written on it.

Its pretty easy for anyone to change the 12 volt battery but do take extra special care that you get it the correct way round & the polarity is correct.

You have nothing to worry about with the IMA system it just resets it completely so when it starts as normal the state of charge guage will read zero but don't worry! you will also see four green charge bars appear on the charge/assist guage just let the engine idle until these green bars go out - the state of charge guage will gradually have risen & settled at its true reading. Hope this helps.

As above, go for a proper brand-name battery (Yuasa, Varta, Bosch etc). With automotive batteries, it really is the case that if you buy cheap, you'll end up buying twice. It's worth spending the extra.

I personally prefer Yuasa after decades of using them on motorbikes, they've never let me down.

Thank you all for tips. I will see if I can get one fitted locally. Honda dealers are quite a schlep from zone 2 London.

Yes me too - but tempered recently as I have had a couple let me down.

Not as good as they were is my current opinion.

I have a Hankook battery on a second car, it gets lots of short journeys so the battery is being well stressed, now 4 years and 9 months old still going strong,these batterys are usually keenly priced by large battery supply stores.

The Yuasa battery fitted to son's Yaris lasted for 11 years till it died. The one fitted to our Yaris D4D only lasted 9 years. The one in my Jazz is now 7 years old and going strong,

The Bosch on my Audi A4 failed at 4 years.
