Tyre pressures - primus 1
Is it necessary to increase tyre pressures before a long journey if the car is fully loaded ( people and luggage) ?

The handbook or often a sticker in the door sill drivers side will have the tyre pressure recommended when fully loaded. They do this for safety, fuel consumption and tyre life.

Tyre pressures - John F

Increase not only for loading but also for speed. Back in the early 1960s when 'motoring' was still a pleasure, the handbook of my father's Rover 105S instructed - ' for constant speeds over 90mph inflate the tyres by an extra 4 psi.' Forty years later my Focus handbook recommends around an extra 3 psi, depending on tyre, for 'continuous road speed over 100mph'. I wish!

My Mazda3's handbook says something similar for speeds over 100mph, though I can't remember off hand what the figure is - probably similar to your Focus, given they are related and of similar size and specs.

I normally keep tyre pressures 2PSI below recommended for a slightly softer ride, but then I am on 255/65/16s.

The old MB coupe we have has the tyre pressure chart on the fuel flap as usual, it's opposite to others in that the higher pressure is given as the default figure, unless you read it carefully you wouldn't realise that you are supposed to reduce pressures by 4si below 100mph.
