LDV Pilot - How to send a van axle? - tdc

Hi,Can someone suggest a good approachable(email etc),pallet collection&delivery company to pick up from East Lincs and deliver to Cleveland?I`ve put the LDV Pilot rear axle diagonally on a 1 x 1.2 m heavy-duty pallet...but it still pops out a few inches each corner, would that bother a courier...or is it best to make an oblong narrow pallet to accomodate the axle properly.I was thinking I could get away with protecting the hub/wheel bolts as it is.I will secure it thoroughly, but I have no way of weighing it and the heavy pallet to get a quote.

Any advice/recommendations please?

£120 delivery for the ones sold on ebay..

you could aways ask how it will be sent, and who with.

£120 will be at least 500 kilos. Palletised collection.

I have no direct info or experience, but my own opinion, for what it is worth, would be to ensure the pallet is wider than the axle, by a good few inches. I'd also be looking at some kind of wooden protection for the ends of the axle. As for courier company recomendations, just search on line for reviews, or possibly a classic car forum (check post dates first to make sure it is active and current) as they are probebly more likely to have experience of sending something like an axle.

Regarding the axle weight, unsurprisingly i could find nothing specifically relating to the pilot, but i did come upon a post from a US based British car forum, and a discussion on Triumph TR7 V8 rear axle (stock and upgrades) weights. There were 4 mentioned and ranged in weight from 149lb to 195lb, which is from 67.5kg (ford 8") up to 88.5kg (dana 44). I think it would be very unlikely for the pilot rear axle weighed more than that.

I used National Pallets about 18 months ago for engine+gearbox and was happy with their service. The rules are the items must be within the pallet, all oil and water to be drained from the units and they must be strapped down firmly. NationalPallets.co.uk allows you to get a quote and arrange pick-up/delivery dates/times online.

I had to get a 12 foot long exhaust delivered a couple of weeks ago, all in one piece. I used the website AnyVan, but then rang them up with specific dimensions and they found someone for me.

Many thanks badbusdriver,RaineMan and Happy Blue, much appreciated, that`s given me plenty to draw from this afternoon. Will report back when all done&dusted......it might help others.

BBD,Yes I was worried about how I was going to protect the ends of the axle.Looks like I`ll have to join two pallets together,it`s such a long item,no real width to it though.

It`s heavy,I can`t lift it above my head ....actually I can`t lift it full-stop,unless I want an inguinal hernia or squashed disc in my back.I`ve had to sort of walk it about to get it on the pallet, after somehow getting it on a trolley to transport to my driveway.A twin axle would be impossible for me.
