Audi A3 - Hire purchase, lease cheapest way?? - Free-man

Hi all

Wondering if can help me with this problemo - I start work on March 1st and need a motor to get to work as it's rural. Salary is ok and I am up for doing monthly payments. Could shell out up to £1000 for a deposit. But aware without a solid history for example at least 3 months payslips, I won't get a car loan or finance?

Was thinking of other options like a lease arrangement or something. Of course the other option is spending the £1000 on the private market, but won't have the same options obviously.

Any ideas?

Yes buy a cheap run around for cash and save your money until you can afford a decent car. Old Mondeo or something Korean. Good condition and cheap are all you should be thinking of. Don't get yourself into debt for a complicated expensive unreliable car.

Agree with Ethan. If it is rural, that suggests narrow, possibly muddy, lanes with the distinct possiblity of farmer Giles coming hairing round a blind corner in his Massey Ferguson!. Get something which you won't mind scraping along a hedge to get past another vehicle!.

Bangernomics is usually the cheapest motoring, but it helps if you are a little handy with the spanners to at least do some general servicing and simple reapirs to keep it running.

Simpler and no longer fashionable cars make the best buys.

Starting a new job means you are somewhat vulnerable (probation period, redundancy etc.) so you don't want to be entering into long term commitments for a couple of years.

Thanks guys, looking at gumtree A3 and Focus - some decent value on there. Focus probably more reliable.. never owned an Audi...

I’d forget the A3 or any premium badged motors at this money. Stick with simple petrol driven mass market models like the Focus, Mazda3, Honda Civic,Toyota Corolla or possibly an Astra 1.4/1.6. All are robust and easy enough to get bits for. The Focus and Mazda 3 are by far the best to drive. Leave the image until your budget can buy it and don’t take out a loan on the basis of a new job, you might not stick it or impress the gaffers enough to get past probation. All the best!

Look on Supermarket for sale boards too. Private owners selling unfashionable metal often for very small money.
